Books and other fiction

I wrote my first short story when I was 22. Over the years, I have written dozens of shorts, non-fiction essays, and articles that all seem to hover around grief, gender, love, and politics of living. I’ve taught creative writing in workshops for over ten years. My workshops are grounded in the personal being political and focus on craft, diverse literary readings, and constructive feedback. I am currently working on researching for my third novel.

The Body Myth

Mira just lost her husband. She’s a teacher living in the heart of Suryam, a modern bustling in city India and the only place in the world the fickle Rasagura fruit grows, until the day she witnesses a beautiful woman having a seizure in the park. Mira is quickly drawn into the lives of this mysterious woman Sara, who suffers a myriad of unexplained illnesses, and her kind, intensely supportive husband, Rahil, striking up intimate, volatile and fragile friendships with each of them that quickly become something more. A moving exploration of loss, Mukherjee delivers an intense and unexpected modern love story as Mira reconciles reality with desire.
